pling™ Offers Convenient Money Management for Teens, With Robust Parental Oversight and Guidance

Bangor, ME: Bangor Savings Bank is excited to announce the launch of pling™, a new teen card designed to introduce financial responsibility and independence to teens aged 13 and up. This innovative banking product enables parents and guardians to help manage their teen's spending while providing a flexible, and user-friendly way for the teen to learn essential money management skills.

pling is more than just a teen card—it's a comprehensive financial tool that combines banking, budgeting, and payment card features in one user-friendly app. Parents or guardians can sign up by downloading the pling app, linking their Bangor Savings Bank checking account or funding source of choice, and adding the teen to their pling profile.

With features like budgeting and spending categories, pling helps teens handle money responsibly while practicing good spending habits, and can help give parents and guardians peace of mind by maintaining financial oversight.

Key Benefits of pling:
  • Financial Wellness: pling provides teens with a controlled environment to learn and practice financial responsibility. The app includes budgeting tools and spending categories, allowing teens to see and track their expenses, and manage their money effectively. The app’s real-time notifications and transaction history offer valuable insights into spending habits, further reinforcing responsible financial behavior.
  • Parental Controls: Parents and guardians can view and manage their teen's spending in real-time through the app, setting limits and restrictions as needed.
  • Convenience: The card offers teens a simple way to make purchases while keeping parents and guardians informed. Additionally, accessible, local customer support is provided by Bangor Savings Bank.
  • Secure Transactions: With no overdraft capability, pling ensures that teens only spend what’s available in their account, minimizing financial risk.

“Creating financial empowerment in our communities is central to our You Matter More promise,” said Bob Montgomery-Rice, President and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank. “pling is a valuable tool for families to help teens learn good money habits from a young age. We are also thrilled that the Flagg family can help us highlight the importance of practicing financial responsibility.”

Collaborating with the Flagg Brothers: A Local Connection with National Influence
In addition to the robust features of pling, Bangor Savings Bank is proud to announce its partnership with Maine’s own Ace and Cooper Flagg, rising stars in the basketball world. Hailing from Newport, Maine, the Flagg brothers have made a name for themselves on the national stage, and now they’re bringing their influence back home.

“We’ve always valued the importance of being prepared both on and off the court,” said Cooper Flagg. “pling is a great way for teens to start taking control of their financial future, and we’re excited to help spread the word in our community,” Ace Flagg added.

To celebrate the launch, Bangor Savings Bank invites customers to visit their local branches after November 1, where life-size cutouts of Ace and Cooper will be displayed. Keep an eye on our social media channels for the announcement of when the cutouts arrive. We encourage everyone to take photos with the cutouts and share them on social media with the hashtag #plingWithFlaggs, spreading the word about pling and celebrating our local heroes.
