Bangor, ME: The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded over $90,000 in grants to 22 nonprofit organizations across Northern New England. These grants support diverse community-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening local economies, promoting educational opportunities, and enhancing the well-being of residents throughout the region.
"These grant recipients lead community initiatives that are most deserving of grant funding awarded by the Foundation across its geography," said
Michael O’Connor, EVP and CFO of Bangor Savings Bank, and the Foundation’s Treasurer.” The funding will positively impact Northern New England through additional support for efforts such as literacy, workforce development, and food security, thereby strengthening the region and our communities.”
This quarter’s grant recipients are making a meaningful impact through vital community programs across Maine and New Hampshire. Among them:
$5,000
MCH, Inc.
Rockland, Knox County, ME
Supporting the Meals on Wheels Knox County program, this funding will help deliver hot, nutritious meals to older adults and individuals with disabilities experiencing food insecurity. By expanding meal delivery services, the program ensures that more vulnerable residents in Midcoast Maine receive the nourishment and support they need to help maintain their independence.
$4,500
Midcoast Literacy
Bath, Sagadahoc County, ME
Enhancing workplace literacy and English language tutoring for adult immigrants in Brunswick, Topsham, and Bath, this grant will provide critical language and job readiness skills. These programs promote economic stability and community integration by equipping English language learners to succeed in the workforce.
$4,500
Players’ Ring Theatre
Portsmouth, Rockingham County, NH
Investing in cultural enrichment, this grant will support the production of an upcoming premiere that fosters community engagement and contributes to the local arts scene. Funding will also ensure greater accessibility to high-quality theatrical performances. This initiative will provide local artists with opportunities for collaboration, skill development, and financial support, while also showcasing their talents to a broader audience and strengthening community connections.
$2,800
Special Children’s Friends
Ellsworth, Hancock County, ME
Advancing youth development, this grant will fund the Early Intervention Music Therapy program, which provides children with disabilities from low-income rural communities access to inclusive instruments and music-based learning. By tailoring therapy sessions to each child’s unique needs, the program strengthens academic readiness and social-emotional development. This initiative will impact children with disabilities by enhancing their cognitive, motor, and communication skills through engaging and interactive music therapy sessions. Additionally, it will foster a sense of inclusion and belonging, helping these children build confidence and self-esteem as they participate in group activities and express themselves creatively.
